Like a trip to the Keys minus the mileage, Scotty’s Landing offers Biscayne Bay views and casual waterfront dining at the piers in Grove Key Marina, accessible by boat or car. Whether it’s a cocktail and appetizer at sunset, a beer and burger after a boat ride, a relaxing getaway for fresh seafood, or a weekend night with live entertainment, Scotty’s is the place to land.
This Coconut Grove landmark, which used to be called Captain Dick’s, has been around for decades. Daytime manager/bartender Pegi Metzler, who tended bar at the Hungry Sailor in the eighties, says in addition to the great food, the atmosphere rocks.
“The old-school cover bands really add to the weekend atmosphere. Some have been playing here since the Captain Dick’s years,” said Metzler. Start off with one of Scotty’s homemade soups ($4.65). The New England Clam Chowder is one of the best in town, but the Spicy Seafood Chowder is out of this world.
Appetizers start at $6.75 for Conch Fritters up to $10.50 for Shrimp Ceviche, with Stone Crabs available during season at market price. Locals swear by the Smoked Fish Dip, Dolphin Fingers (grilled, blackened, or fried) and the Lobster Spring Rolls. The Off the Grill Menu ($5.25 – $15.25) offers Hot Dogs, chicken and veggie burgers. They are a bit known for their burgers. The ribs and N.Y. Strip are also popular.
Their array of sandwiches ($6.25 – $7.95) includes classics, such as the Turkey Club and BLT, but all are above par in taste. The seafood dishes ($8.95 – $15.95, except for crab at market price) are always fresh, such as the Fish Tacos, Maryland Lump Crab cakes and their renowned Coconut Shrimp. Don’t forget to end your visit with Keys-worthy Key Lime Pie, or a slice of Chocolate Mousse Cake ($4.95).
Scotty’s Landing has a full liquor bar including some of the best frozen drinks in town. They serve a large selection of wines and beer, including drafts. Order a bucket of Beer (6 bottles) and one bottle is free. In addition to a wide selection of popular beers, Scotty’s also carries Craft Beer (Strongbow Cider, Monk in the Trunk, Cigar City Jai Alai Ipa, and Magic Hat #9).
